Day Five | Friday

THE BEAUTY WITHIN

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.

1 Peter 3:3-4 (NIV)

Esther's physical beauty initially captivated King Xerxes and those around her, but time inevitably alters appearances. God's interest lies not in outward looks, but in the inner beauty of the Holy Spirit we embody.

After Haman's downfall, Esther pleads with the king once more for mercy on behalf of the Jews. This moment is pivotal; she no longer presents herself as a calculating queen but as a devoted wife, weeping at the king's feet. For the first time, King Xerxes glimpses Esther's true heart—a courageous, self-sacrificing leader for her people, not just a pretty face. The king grants her and Mordecai the favor to write another decree in the king's name on behalf of the Jews as seems best to you and seal it with the king's signet ring (Esther 8:8).

Esther's beauty may have opened the door to the palace, but it was her courage and reliance on God that saved His people. The world may tell us that our greatest value is found in remaining beautiful, youthful or relevant, but Scripture tells us something far more lasting. Our worth was never meant to be rooted in what fades. True beauty is found in the presence of the Holy Spirit within us—the Spirit who renews us from the inside out and makes us useful to God in every season of life.

APPLICATION: God is not limited by what the world considers beautiful, desirable or significant. If the Holy Spirit dwells within us, we carry a beauty that cannot be diminished by age, circumstance or the passing of time. And that is a beauty worth cultivating. Pause and thank God that He sees you beyond what the world does.

PRAYER: Dear God, as our outward beauty changes with time, may we become increasingly captivated by the beauty of Christ being formed within us. May we care less about preserving what is temporary and more about cultivating what is eternal. Amen.
